Lo streaming offre questo gusto di scoprire cose nuove, seguire piste, immaginare da un’etichetta che magari dietro ci sia un’artista. Nell’estrema frammentazione della scena musicale, “scovare” qualcosa di nuovo, andare a caccia dello sconosciuto è uno sport piacevole. Eccomi a raccontarvi Volen Sentir.
Si tratta di un duo elettronico di Mosca che nasce come progetto a due voci e due mani: il duo moscovita composto da Andrey (Anjei) Lemeshko e Davit (David) Patvakanian ha pubblicato essenzialmente singoli e recentemente un album. Il nome è diventato il sigillo con cui la coppia firma un’elettronica calda, melodica e “organica” che unisce world-music, house lenta e paesaggi sonori cinematografici; l’attività del progetto è documentata fin dal 2017.
Le radici personali di Andrey e Davit affondano in percorsi individuali lunghi e ricchi di esperienze: prima di unire le forze come Volen Sentir i due avevano già alle spalle anni di lavoro in studio, produzioni e attività nel circuito elettronico. L’idea del duo nasce come esigenza di creare brani che suonino come “viaggi” — tracce che costruiscono tensione, rilasciano una melodia e rimangono sospese fra ritmi umani e tappeti sonori ambient.
Guardare la foto che li ritrae con Andrey con una chiara fisionomia slava e David che ha probabili origini armene, dice di una Russia che potrebbe essere ben altro dal delirio nazionalista e sanguinario di Vladimir Putin. Un crogiolo di diverse tradizioni, diverse sollecitazioni culturali, una ricchezza ora lasciata in un ripostiglio per dar voce al male. Come si diffonderà l’amore di cui parlano i nostri musicisti di oggi in un paese martoriato dalla guerra e ridotto ad una macchina bellica chiusa in se stessa?
Non è semplice rispondere a questa domanda, quel che è certo, come sempre, è che i Russi non sono Vladimir Putin, gli Israeliani non sono Ben Gvir e i Palestinesi non sono Yahya Sinwar, certo ci sarà purtroppo chi simpatizza, ci sarà chi si oppone, ci sarà chi ha paura e chi lotta. Fare musica, spostare dal boato dei cannoni alla musica, far ballare la gente invece di chiuderla in trincea, sono già passi importanti. Meglio di niente.
Il suono del progetto è diventato il suo marchio: organic house, una musica dance con una forte componente emotiva. Strumentazioni acustiche, percussioni dal sapore etnico, field recordings e synth caldi si intrecciano a produzioni elettroniche pulite; il risultato è una musica pensata sia per l’ascolto sia per i set che vogliono creare un’atmosfera meditativa ma coinvolgente. Questa estetica è sottolineata dalle loro comunicazioni ufficiali e dalle release con etichette della scena.
Fin dai primi anni, Volen Sentir ha ottenuto riconoscimenti significativi: le loro tracce sono state pubblicate su etichette di culto come Shanti Moscow Radio, Lost & Found e All Day I Dream, e sono entrate in compilation iconiche come Tomorrowland (2018), Café Del Mar e Buddha-Bar, simboli della musica elettronica downtempo e melodic house internazionale. Tra il 2019 e il 2020 le loro tracce hanno scalato le classifiche di Resident Advisor e Beatport, entrando tra i brani più supportati dai principali influencer e leader del settore musicale elettronico.
Nel corso degli anni Volen Sentir ha licenziato singoli ed EP che hanno consolidato la loro reputazione: fra i brani più citati c’è “Ororel” (uscito su Hoomidaas nel 2022) — traccia che ha circolato sulle piattaforme di streaming e nei set dell’organic/melodic scene — e l’“Alchemist EP” realizzato con Makebo e pubblicato su Lost Miracle nel 2023, un lavoro che mostra bene la loro attitudine alle collaborazioni e alla costruzione di atmosfere articolate.
Accanto alle uscite originali, Volen Sentir ha partecipato a remix e progetti per etichette e compilation importanti per la scena: nelle loro note si trovano riferimenti a upload su canali come Monstercat (con remix) e ad apparizioni in contesti editoriali che hanno amplificato la loro visibilità. Nella narrazione pubblica del duo compaiono etichette e collettivi come Lost Miracle, Hoomidaas e house/collective legati allo spazio melodic/ambient.
La carriera live e la diffusione internazionale: pur partendo dalla scena moscovita, Andrey e Davit hanno portato la loro musica su palchi internazionali, collaborando con altri artisti della scena e comparendo in raccolte e mix curati di festival e collettivi. Negli anni recenti il duo ha continuato a pubblicare e ad essere presente su radio e portali specializzati della musica elettronica.
Il loro ingrediente essenziale è la capacità di creare melodie ritmiche, groove potenti e armonie ricche accostando suoni di tradizioni e generi molto diversi. Fondono questi elementi in un’unica visione musicale coerente, dando vita a un suono autentico, in cui la modernità si mescola armoniosamente con echi di epoche e culture diverse, si ascolti Ororel qui sotto per incontrare una bella fusione tra house e melodie di chiara matrice armena. Questo approccio rende la loro musica unica: adatta tanto ai set dal vivo quanto all’ascolto individuale, sempre con un’impronta meditativa.

Streaming offers the thrill of discovering new things, following leads, imagining that behind a label there might be an artist. In the extreme fragmentation of today’s music scene, “unearthing” something new, hunting the unknown, is a delightful sport. Here I am to tell you about Volen Sentir.
They are an electronic duo from Moscow: the project is composed of Andrey (Anjei) Lemeshko and Davit (David) Patvakanian, who have mainly released singles and recently an album. The name has become the seal under which the pair signs warm, melodic, and “organic” electronic music, blending world-music influences, slow house, and cinematic soundscapes; the project has been active since 2017.
The personal roots of Andrey and Davit lie in long and rich individual experiences: before joining forces as Volen Sentir, both had already spent years working in studios, producing music, and performing within the electronic circuit. The duo’s concept was born from the desire to create tracks that feel like journeys — compositions that build tension, release a melody, and linger between human rhythms and ambient soundscapes.
Looking at a photo of them — Andrey with a clear Slavic appearance, and David with probable Armenian origins — speaks of a Russia that could be very different from Vladimir Putin’s nationalist and violent delusions. A melting pot of different traditions and cultural impulses, a richness now tucked away to give voice to evil. How will the love these musicians speak of spread in a country ravaged by war and reduced to a self-contained war machine?
It’s not easy to answer that question. What is certain, as always, is that Russians are not Vladimir Putin, Israelis are not Ben Gvir, and Palestinians are not Yahya Sinwar. There will, unfortunately, be those who sympathize, those who oppose, those who are afraid, and those who fight. Making music, turning the roar of cannons into music, making people dance instead of locking them in trenches — these are already important steps. Better than nothing.
The project’s sound has become its trademark: organic house, dance music with a strong emotional component. Acoustic instruments, ethnic-flavored percussion, field recordings, and warm synths intertwine with clean electronic production; the result is music designed for both listening and sets aiming to create a meditative yet engaging atmosphere. This aesthetic is highlighted in their official communications and their releases with leading scene labels.
From the early years, Volen Sentir has achieved significant recognition: their tracks were released on cult labels such as Shanti Moscow Radio, Lost & Found, and All Day I Dream, and featured in iconic compilations like Tomorrowland (2018), Café Del Mar, and Buddha-Bar, symbols of downtempo and melodic house worldwide. Between 2019 and 2020, their tracks climbed the charts of Resident Advisor and Beatport, becoming among the most supported by key influencers and leaders of the electronic music industry.
